DOTr MRT-3 Press Statement
27 July 2018
This refers to the incident involving a fistfight between two MRT-3 passengers inside a Southbound train yesterday, 26 July 2018, at around 6:35 pm.
The Department of Transportation - Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (DOTr MRT-3) would like to apologize for any inconvenience the incident may have caused to the passengers of the train.
Based on the report of the MRT-3 Safety and Security Unit, the altercation started when Joselito A. Nilo, 31, from Caloocan City, allegedly touched the private part of his co-passenger, Ronel Valdez, 27, from Sta. Mesa, Manila. The confrontation immediately led to a brawl which caused a ruckus inside the running train.
The two, who were immediately brought by MRT-3 security personnel to a station police post in Ayala station, eventually decided not to bring the issue to the higher authority and instead agreed for a settlement.
However, the MRT-3 management is further investigating the incident and looking into the possibility of filing charges against the said passengers for disturbing peace and order during train operations.
In a bid to strengthen collaborative efforts in ensuring peace, order, and safety of passengers, MRT-3 appeals to the riding public to adhere to rules and regulations, as well as to report to the authority present in the area any malicious or inappropriate behavior within MRT-3 premises.
The DOTr, on the other hand, expresses full support to MRT-3 in its continued efforts to ensure that the railway is being operated safely while providing service to hundreds of thousands of passengers daily.
