This refers to the investigation conducted by Sumitomo-MHI-TESP regarding the smoke emission incident on 04 November 2019 at Santolan Station (Northbound).
According to Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, the cause of the incident was due to a short circuit in one of the traction motors (broken bearing cover). It also showed on the affected parts that high current flowed in the circuit, causing significant damage to the electrical box and adjacent parts.
To prevent the recurrence of such incident, the following countermeasures were formulated:
1. Conduct a crack testing using penetrant on all bearing cover of traction assembly to prevent the recurrence of the incident.
2. Systematic checking of protective device during emergency and regular maintenance should be implemented.
3. Thorough cleaning of all electrical boxes like contactors, bus bars, connecting plates, main choppers, and adjacent parts.
4. To conduct insulation test on high voltage cables. Replace the cables, if needed.
We appeal to the riding public's understanding while the massive rehabilitation of MRT-3 system is ongoing.
Rest assured that the MRT-3 Management and Sumitomo are doing everything to provide reliable and safe trains for passenger service.
